Happy(ness) Bhag Jayegi
Just yesterday, my heart was filled with happiness over having watched three brilliant plays. Then I decided to go watch the movie "Happy Bhag Jaayegi".
I'll be honest. I did not have high expectations from the movie. After seeing Diana Penty in Cocktail, I wasn't yet ready to give her another chance. But I still went for it...for the love of Jimmy Shergil. And I'm proud to say he didn't disappoint.
But.
Yes, there's a but.
In this 120-min long ordeal, there was only one scene which made me laugh. Credit goes to Jimmy Shergil. Apart from this scene where Abhay Deol & Piyush Mishra have come to fetch Guddu in the disguise of musicians & the comedy that ensued thereafter when Jimmy Shergil enters the scene, the rest of the movie falls flat in its face.
Before I forget, special mention should go to Piyush Mishra who's an amazingly brilliant actor! But he's only human. And humans are bound to make mistakes. This movie was one of his. It's sad that the makers of the movie let the talent of this man go to waste like this.

Diana Penty fails to impress again. I wouldn't say she hasn't improved since Cocktail. There's a remarkable difference in her acting for sure. But Rome wasn't built in a day. It's a long journey for her.
Abhay Deol just tries to pass on with his cute, dimply smile. But, Alas! It wasn't cute enough.
Ali Fazal is a great actor but he did not have too much scope in this movie. Another fine actor that the film-makers couldn't cash in on.

The makers, it seemed, couldn't make up their mind as to which way they want the story to go. Whether they want it just to be a comedy or a love-pentagon between the 5 actors (including Momal Sheikh).
At least 2 out of the 3 male actors are shown to have fallen in love with Happy.
Reason: her strength, attitude towards life & whatever it is that she's touted to be from within in the whole movie! But for some reason, the makers fail to shed much light on the same three things which were supposed to make the audience, too, fall in love with Happy!

The end result - we do not love Happy. We do not care whether she gets to marry Guddu (Ali) or not. We do not understand why Bilal (Abhay) has put his life on stake for Happy. And finally, why someone like Jimmy Shergil agreed to do such a movie!
As always, I'd like to blame nobody else but myself for the ordeal that I had to go through last night. But I do hope you learn from other people's mistakes & do not decide to screw up your happiness over Happy.
With that we come to the word of the day:
Eke Out: It means "to make something go further or last longer;"
For example: you can eke out your income by taking a second job, but you can't eke out your existence.
