Baar Baar Dekho?

This title can be interpreted in many ways when describing the movie.

- It could be a question - should you really watch it?
- It could also be the director's way of expressing the irony that the viewers are going to find themselves in when they watch the movie.
- Or it could also be the ultimate example of the director's sarcasm.

Whatever it is, one thing is for sure that the movie makers did take the name seriously.
They make you watch Jai's (played by Sidharth) future in different permutations & combinations so many times that you start wishing to see him die too. Perhaps I'm being too ruthless. Because honestly, when I stepped out of the theatre... I gave it an okay rating in my mind. Before going for the movie, I had already heard how bad the movie is. So, I went for it with no expectations. Since I had zero expectations, whatever I got didn't seem too bad. Just like life, eh? ;-)

Coming to the actors now. When a mortal human being takes up one challenge after another in life, he does that to prove to himself/herself that he/she can do better. That's why we keep raising the bar for ourselves in life, right? With Katrina Kaif it seems like the opposite. With each movie she does, it feels like she's trying to hit a new low in her "acting career". You watch a movie of Katrina and feel like she couldn't have done worse than that. But hold on to your horses, people. You haven't seen it all yet!

I remember one breakup scene in which Sidharth tells her that he doesn't want to get married and that he wants to focus on his career instead. Katrina had to cry. And cry she did. And I felt bad for her. Not because Sidharth broke her heart. But because it broke my heart to see how hard she's trying to act but is still not able to! Unfortunately, her over-hyped abs couldn't do much to help her get through the movie without getting noticed for her abysmal acting.

It was only Sidharth who carried the whole movie on his shoulders. There's no denying the fact that he's hot. What's more satisfying to see is that he is also improving gradually. I remember how bad he danced in the movie "Student of the Year". It was almost like he had two left feet! But now, not only has he become a better actor, he's also become a much better dancer. His acting, though, still needs a bit of polishing.

Other supporting actors like Ram Kapoor, Sarika Thakur & Rajit Kapur entertained us in whatever capacity they could. Sayani Gupta's & Rohan Joshi's presence was unsettling. It was a sheer waste of good talent.

Since the movie involves time travel & takes the story to 2034 & beyond, the makers have also experimented with giving everything a futuristic look. What I liked the most were their smartphones. It was like a translucent, rectangular piece of ceramic or something which didn't have any screen per se or even a keypad. It would just light up during calls or whenever you wanted to use it and the keys & the screen would appear automatically when the phone's in use.

What the makers forgot to do was...among everything so futuristic & innovative, they still did not have self-driving cars in the year 2034! Another thing I don't understand with these film makers is that whenever they try to experiment with how the world would look like after 10-20 years, they end up giving the younger generation weird hair color, which does not make any sense! Why do they think that human beings' fashion sense would go extinct with time? This happened in one of Priyanka Chopra's movies too which took the story to the year 2050 and gave Priyanka Chopra a bad haircut & an even worse hair color. In this movie, Sidharth & Katrina's son had hair which looked like a pigeon's tail.

Time travel has clearly never been Bollywood's forte. I think that they get so fascinated with how technology's gonna change the world in future that they succumb to the pressure of portraying it in movies. What, I feel, would be more interesting to see in future is how the Indian movie industry turns out to be! I hope they do a better job than what they show us in their movies.

Keeping time travel aside & coming back to the present, it's time for the word of the day:

Proclivities: It refers to a tendency to choose or do something regularly, an inclination or predisposition toward a particular thing.

~ Until next time. :)

P.S. How can I review BBD without mentioning Kala Chashma even once! It finds its mention here in post script just like it finds its way in the movie only in the end. If you're going for the movie just to watch the song (& Katrina's abs) on a big screen, I'd highly recommend buying a chromecast & a big screen TV instead & streaming it at home. The big screen TV & chromecast would be a much better investment than wasting your precious 3 hours on this movie just for this song!
